What is Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit?
To begin with, key verses addressing this subject are as follows: Matthew 12:24;32, Mark 3:22;28-30, Luke 11:15; 12:10, Hebrews 10:16-29.
Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit, which is included in the complex unity of the G-dhead is the one sin that will not be forgiven. To begin, Yahshua taught that we should not let bad speech or hard feelings affect our testimony, that is our demonstrated lifestyle that should reflect what we say we believe. This is the idea of turning the other cheek. When Yahshua was criticized personally, He did not allow it to affect Him. He did not retaliate by returning evil for evil. But when G-d’s Torah was attacked, that was a sin for which men were not and will not be forgiven.
Before I continue, we must understand that G-d’s Word is G-d according to John 1:1-2. So when G-d’s Word is attacked in any way, by default the offender is “attacking” or blaspheming against G-d.
Hebrews 10:29 sheds a little more light on the subject. ” How much severer punishment do you think he will deserve who has trampled underfoot the Son of G-d, and has regarded as unclean the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has insulted the Spirit of grace?” In other words, those who trample on the Word of G-d/G-d/Yahshua who is G-d will not be forgiven.
Hebrews 10:26-9 also provides more insight into the specifics of blasphemy: If we go on sinning willfully after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a terrifying experience of judgment, and the fury of fire which will consume the adversaries. Anyone who has set aside the Law of Moshe dies without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses.
The sin of blasphemy includes believing and openly practicing that which is not of G-d’s Torah/Law/Instructions, persisting in a way of life that is against G-d’s Word, or believing that Yahshua was acting as a demon-filled individual instead of demonstrating the power of G-d as he performed miracles out of compassion and mercy.
Blasphemy against the Holy Spirit is a persistent and hardened rejection of the Holy Spirit who was given as a guide and teacher when Yahshua returned to the throne after his ascension. It is the Holy Spirit who guides us on our spiritual trek toward an ever-growing relationship with YHVH/Yahshua that will one day lead to our salvation. The Holy Spirit serves as our spiritual conscience.
The validity of the truth that those who continue to live a life that is inconsistent with G-d’s Torah/Word and blasphemy is found in Revelation 22:18-19 ” I warn everyone hearing the words of the prophecy in this book that if anyone adds to them, G-d will add to him the plagues written in this book. And if anyone takes anything away from the words in the book of this prophecy, G-d will take away his share in the Tree of Life and the holy city, as described in this book.”
May the Holy Spirit 9Ruach HaKodesh) guide you in your spiritual journey.
